What To Expect

"And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams." (Acts 2:17-18)

This church acknowledges the Messiah, Jesus, as its head, and finds in the Bible, interpreted by the holy spirit of God through reason, faith, and conscience, its guidance in matters of faith and discipline. A congregational policy with full autonomy for the local church as well as an emphasis on home gatherings are the most biblical ways for the church to be faithful to its calling and to fully embrace the priesthood of believers (1 Peter 2:4-10) as an ideal for the Church of God. Having this in mind, our staffing is made of benevolent active members of the local church. It is lawful to financially support ministries in order to spread the Gospel, but no elder or member in the church are to be on a payroll (Philippians 4:15-16; Acts 18:1-4). As for the office of pastor, it is not found in the Scriptures. Ministers for the church are to be called elders. The office of elder is the same as the office of overseer or bishop (Acts 20:17, 28 and Titus 1:5-9).

At Mount Zion Church of God, we also believe that all believers were given the gift of the Holy Spirit without regard to gender, race, age and social status. Everyone is welcome to participate, to share, to pray and to prophesize (Acts 2:17-18). We welcome contribution from men and women alike either on our blog or in our meetings, for preaching and sharing, with regulation according to 1 Corinthians 14. Women and men alike are given the opportunity to be apostles and ministers according to their spiritual gifts in the New Testament church (Romans 16:7; Romans 16:1). We ask for men to have their head uncovered and for women to have their head covered during worship and fellowship meetings (1 Corinthians 11:4-5).
